What is the most resilient parasite?(最も強い寄生物は?)

resilient

A bacteria? A virus?

Uh.. What Mr. Cobb is trying to say..(コブ氏が言いたいのはつまり、、)

An idea. Resilient. Highly contagious.

contagious

Once an idea has taken hold of the brain, it’s almost impossible to eradicate.(一度芽生えたら取り除けない)

Once+

take hold of

An idea that is fully formed, fully understood, that sticks.(アイデアは形になると突き刺さる)

stick

For someone like you to steal?(それを盗むのか?)

Yes. In the dream state, your conscious defenses are lowered, and that makes your thoughts vulnerable to theft.(そうだ。

vulnerable to

ex)Sato is very vulnerable to criticism from others.

It’s called extraction.

Mr. Saito, we can train your subconscious to defend itself from even the most skilled extractor.(サイトーさん、鍛えれば潜在意識は守れる)

subconscious

→似たような単語にunconscious(無意識の)があります。

How can you do that?(どうやって?)

Because I am the most skilled extractor.(私は抜き取りのプロだ)

I know how to search your mind and find  your secrets.(心の中を探り秘密を見つける)

I know the tricks. And I can teach them to you, so that even when you’re asleep, your defence is never down.

your defence is never downの直訳は、「あなたの防御は決して崩れない」ですが、ここでは

Look, if you want my help, you’re gonna have to be completely open with me.(私に心を開くなら協力しよう)

be gonna have to = be going to have to

I need to  know my way around your thoughts better than your wife, better than your therapist, better than anyone.(あなたをよく知る必要がある。

know my way around〜

If that is a dream, and you have a safe full of secrets, I need to know what’s in the safe.

金庫=safe

In order for this  all to work, you need to completely let me in.

in order for A to do

Enjoy your evening, gentlemen, as I consider your proposal.

He knows. What’s going on up there?

what’s going on?

・what’s going on?

What’s happening?

What are you doing now?

What’s up?

「What’s up?」「How you doing?」

Saito knows. He’s playing with us.

Doesn’t matter. I can get in here. Trust me.

The information is in the safe. He looked right at it when I mentioned secrets.

He looked right at it

He=主語

right=副詞

it=目的語

look at〜 vs take a look at〜

look at

take a look at

What’s she doing here?(彼女だ)

Just head back to the room.

head to〜

・Head up to→「北の方角に向かう」

・Head down to→「南の方角に向かう」

Head back→「帰る」

All right? I’ll take care of this.(分かったな?

You know that I am.(そうだが)

But I, I can’t trust you anymore.(君を信じられない)

So what?(だから何?)

Looks like arthur’s taste.(アーサーの好み?)

taste

ex)Lemons taste sour.

ex)Chocolate tastes sweet.

ex)The cookie has a good taste.

ex)His design is good taste.(彼のデザインのテイストはいいよ。)

Actually, the subject is partial to postwar British painters.(20

Please have a seat.(座れよ)

Tell me. Do the children miss me?(子供たち寂しがってる?)

You can’t imagine.(当然だ)

You can’t imagine以降に(that children don’t miss you.)

You can’t imagine that children don’t miss you.

What are you doing?(どこへ?)

Just getting some fresh air. Stay where you are, Mal.

Come on, Damn it.

Turn around.

turn around

ex)She turned around suddenly.

The gum, dom.

Now the envelope, Mr. Cobb.

Did she tell you? Or have you know all along?(モルに聞いたのか? )

all along

ex)I felt all along that she likes me.(私は彼女が私のことを好きだと最初から感じていた。)

That you’re here to steal from me or that we are actually asleep?(盗みのことか?

Or have you know all along〜?

I want to know the name of your employer.

Uh, there’s no use threatening him in a dream, right Mal?

there’s no use doing

また「There is no use in ○○ing」のように「use」の後ろに「in」を入れる場合もありますが、意味は同じです。

It is no use doing

It is unless to do

What is the point of doing

→これは疑問文ですが、「There is no use ○○ing」と同じような意味になります。

That depends on what you’re threatening.

Killing him would just wake him up. But pain…(殺せば目覚めるだけ、でも痛みは)

Pain is in the mind.

And judging by the decor, we’re in your mind, aren’t we, Artur?

What are you doing? It’s too soon.

I know. But the dream’s collapsing.(夢が崩れる)

I’m gonna try to keep Saito under a little bit longer. We’re almost there.(眠りを引き延ばすぞ)

He was close. Very close.

He was close

Stop him.

This isn’t gonna work. Wake him up.

This isn’t gonna workは映画では訳されていません。

He won’t wake.

Give him the kick.

What?(何?)

Dunk him.(落とせ)

He’ out.(よし)

You can prepared, hmm?(予期してたのか?)

prepare

Not even my head of security knows this apartment. How did you find it?

It’s very difficult for a man of your position to keep a love nest like this secret, particularly where there’s a married woman involved.

She would never.

Yet, here we are….with a dilemma.

文頭のyet(しかし)は前文のShe would never(人妻が口を割るわけない)に掛かっています。

They’re getting closer.(急げ)

You got what you came for.

Well, that’s not true.(まだだ)

You left out a key piece of information, didn’t you?

leave out

You held something back, because you knew what we were up to.

be up to

ex)She is up to mischief.

ex)It’s up to you.

Question is, why’d you let us in at all?(何が目的だ)

at all

Not for a while, remember?

for a whileは「しばらくの間」 という意味。 I can not come home for a while.(しばらくは家には帰られない)が完全な文だと思われます。

be away

sniff out

You?(お前は?)

Send my regards.(元気でな)

He sold you out.(彼が寝返った)

sell out

「Sold out」は「Sell out」の過去形ですが、「Me」を挟んで「Sold me out」にすることで「裏切られた」という言い回しになります。

Okay. Here’s me planting an idea in your head. I say to you, “Don’t think about elephants.” What are you thinking about?(「象のことを考えるな」何が頭に浮かんだ?)

Elephants.(象かな)

Right. But it’s not your idea, because you know I gave it to you.(でもそれは他人の考えだ)

True inspiration’s impossible to fake.(ごまかせない)

It’s not true.(違う)

Can you do it?(できるだろ)

Because I can find my own way to square things with Cobol.(コボル社は自分で解決する)

square

ex)He broke up with me because I cheated.(私が浮気したので、彼は私との関係を終わらせた)

ex)Police were called in to break up the brawl.(乱闘を止めるために警察が呼ばれた)

ex)An earthquake broke up my dishes.(地震が私のお皿を粉々に砕いた)

ex)She just walked away without saying goodbye.

take a leap of faith

I think they might find a way to make it work in your case.

It’ll take more than the occasional stuffed animal to convince those children they still have a father.(ぬいぐるみを贈るより、父親らしいことをしろ)

take more than〜

stuffed

You know what I’m offering.

You have to let them decide for themselves.
